Year 5/6 Tournament 24.11.23

QPR B & C Mixed Year 5/6 tournament

Match 1  Highfield vs Pinkwell

A cagey match to open the group. Both schools were very evenly matched, with some great saves either end. Highfield controlled the ball well but struggled to finish in the final third. In the last moments of the game, Highfield gave away a penalty kick. All eyes were on Highfield goalkeeper Jan, who did he best to make himself big in the goal jumping side to side. The penalty was struck with force, but an excellent dive from Jan saw the ball ricochet off his knee and back into play as the final whistle blew. Naturally, the team ran to celebrate the save with Jan, who was notably proud. A great point earned in match 1.

Highfield vs Harmondsworth

A tough match up second, as Harmondsworth sat at the top of the group after winning their first match. A very tough, physical end to end match from both sides. In defence, Jakub and Seldi stayed cool, calm and collected despite conceding an early goal. A fantastic hattrick of powerful, low driven shots by Seldi enabled Highfield to take a strong lead. Harmondsworth then pulled another goal back to make the game 3-2. Tommy and Qeti subbed onto the pitch for Jakub and Milo to switch to a more physical and defensive line up to secure the win. Qeti held the ball up well alongside Kairav and Jayden in midfield to prevent any counter attacks, resulting in a 3-2 win for Highfield.

Highfield vs Bell Farm

Going into the final match, Highfield knew a draw would see them qualify to the quarter finals, but a win would secure top spot in the group. Bell Farm played fantastically, pushing forward and controlling the ball in the early stages of the match. Excellent goal keeping by Jan prevented a few well worked shots hitting the back of the net. On a counter attack, Kairav played in Jayden, who swept the ball across the box to Milo. Milo’s touch enabled him to take the ball past the defender and slot the ball into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. Moments later, the ball fell to Jayden who calmly placed the ball into the right-hand corner for 2-0. Once again, Qeti came onto the pitch for Milo and helped slow down the pace of the game, supporting her midfielders excellently. Tommy then switched into defensive midfield, allowing Jayden and Milo some breathing time off the pitch. Some brilliant defending from Jakub and Seldi again to keep another clean sheet.

Quarter Final  - Highfield vs Wood End

After a break for a lunch, Highfield were ready for their next match. Qualifying top of the group meant a match against second place in Group C Wood End. The match started physically, with Highfield conceding two early goals to some excellent play from Wood End. Milo showed great leadership, keeping the team calm. Resilience was vital, with Highfield then pulling back a goal thanks to thunderous strike by Seldi. Highfield pushed and pushed but, unfortunately couldn’t get the better of some outstanding defending by Wood End. An unfortunate loss, but Highfield were gracious in defeat and left with their heads held high.
