At Highfield Primary School, we fully embrace the four guiding principles which shape the EYFS curriculum:

• All children are unique and constantly learning. They should be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured;
• Positive relationships encourage children to be strong and independent.
• Enabling environments, in which their experiences meet their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers.
• Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates.

The framework covers the education and care of all children in early years provision, including children with special educational needs and disabilities.

There are seven areas of learning:

These 7 areas are used to plan your child’s learning and activities. The professionals teaching and supporting your child will make sure that activities are suited to your child’s unique needs. They are designed to be really flexible so that staff can follow your child's needs and interests.

Children in the EYFS learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking, which takes place both indoors and outside.

At the end of Reception our children will be assessed against the 17 Early Learning Goals, and their progress shared with parents.
