Healthy Eating

Until school finishes in July Kathy Perrin, Maureen Senatore and Toni Matthews (parent/helper) will be preparing/cooking fruit and vegetables in school with two children from years 1-6, the finished dish is then taken back to class for everyone to try.

The purpose is to :

  • Develop healthy eating opportunities in school
  • Encourage enjoyment of healthy eating, the preparation and sharing of food
  • How to prepare and cook using healthy amounts of fruit and vegetables
  • To participate in and benefit from a healthy school environment that is committed to promote lifelong learning, health and wellbeing.

Two children from years 1-6 will prepare and cook a dish on a weekly basis supervised by 3-4 volunteer governors/parents.

At each session the children will be briefed on hygiene and safety:

  • Washing hands and fruit/vegetables
  • Clean work surface
  • Handling of knives correctly, blade down and always use chopping board
  • Tidy up and washing up

There will be 3-4 children per group supervised by one adult.

A recipe will be prepared cooked and shared with each class, therefore giving every child an opportunity to participate in tasting and sharing healthy food within school.

Children will monitor “likes” and “dislikes” and hand out “I tried something new” stickers.
